A verse of love unfolds beneath the moonlight. “Mongryong & Chunhyang” reimagines one of Korea’s most iconic traditional love stories through Korean traditional rhythm and modern hip-hop. Mongryong, the son of a noble family. Chunhyang, the daughter of a gisaeng. In a world divided by social status and strict rules, their love refuses to follow the boundaries society has drawn for them. Driven by traditional janggu and buk rhythms, with sparse gayageum melodies, Korean rap and traditional-inspired vocals, this track transforms the classic story of Chunhyang into HYEONRYUL’s own style of Joseon Hip-Hop. From their quiet beginning, to Chunhyang’s unwavering devotion, and finally— “Amhaeng-eosa Chuldu!” (The Secret Royal Inspector has arrived!) The restrained traditional rhythm suddenly erupts into a powerful hip-hop climax. Times may change, but love remains.
